How To Increase Your Online Sales

Are you looking to increase your online sales? Are you unsure as to how to go about increasing your online sales? I have had a number of websites on the web since 1999 and during these last eight years feel that I have learned a great deal about what it required to successfully promote a website. In this article, I will be giving free tips and advice about how to gain more traffic to your website and more sales from your website.

I now offer a web promotion service and always ask a potential client:

Which are your key phrases that you would like to dominate the search engines with?\”

The amount of webmasters who state a phrase that is not even on their homepage often astounds me; this is a very basic error. This is therefore the first tip; ensure that your key phrases are on the homepage of your website.

There are likely to be some people who visit your website and then return perhaps a year or two later to purchase a product from the site. If the site looks exactly the same then this person may not know if the site is still operational and may look elsewhere or email you before deciding to purchase.

On a similar theme, if the copyright of the site has not been updated to show the current year people will also not know if your services are still current. Basically the point I am trying to make here is that you should be updating your site with fresh content each month and ensure that each year you update the date of the copyright.

Offering the visitors to your website something for free is always a good idea. The chance to join a free newsletter or to receive a free e-book is a way of keeping your potential clients thinking about you and your site.

To attract additional visitors to your site, it is important that you go about increasing the number of backward links that are pointing to your site. The higher the page rank and trust rank of these sites, the better.

There are so many positives in opening an ecommerce business online. For instance your business can be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and it can be open on holidays even when you are personally enjoying the festivities. Ecommerce is typically much less expensive to start than a brick and mortar counterpart. In many ways it may seem like a no-brainer to rush headlong into an ecommerce store.

However, some of the negatives should also be considered. For instance, your website may be geared to a worldwide audience, but when you launch the site it is simply a little known commodity on the edge of cyberspace. Its tough to have a grand opening online because it can take awhile for consumers to find you.

So much rests on the rankings of site engines to help ecommerce stores get up and running.

One of the things that consumers like about ecommerce shopping is also one of the things that business owners find most challenging no personal contact with buyer. Your automated ecommerce solution helps maximize productivity while minimizing direct interaction with customers.

Some sense of contact can be initiated through autoresponders that provide helpful tips and/or instructions to assist the buyer with their new purchase or in understanding your business a little bit better.

Online businesses have discovered ways to present the possibility of consumer input

1) Business Blog (Bblog) - This allows you to post personal items about the product, yourself and your ecommerce store. For certain customers this provides a personal touch they may still desire. It also allows you some level of personal interaction with consumers.

As a business owner you should also be thrilled that this knowledge provides you with an opportunity to reach out to disenfranchised consumers with a product they need in an environment they are comfortable with. Just make sure your do your best to optimize your website so search engines can rank your site in the best possible way.

Is ECommerce Right for Our Business?

If your business features products or services for sale, undoubtedly the topic of eCommerce has come up. What is eCommerce? Literally defined as the conduct of financial transactions by electronic means, it refers to purchases made over the Internet. There are popular slang terms such as ebusiness, click and mortar, dotcom, cyber-mall and multiple spellings (eCommerce, e-commerce, E-Commerce), but they are all basically the same thing. Dont let the different phrases confuse you, it all comes back to the same principle: selling online.

So how do you know if selling online will be beneficial for your business? There are a few basic questions that can help you with this decision. First and foremost, can you afford to develop a professional eCommerce storefront on your Web site? Youve heard the phrase if you cant do it right, its not worth doing at all. This is especially true in regards to eCommerce because people will not purchase from your Web site if it looks amateur and is poorly done.

Finally, you need to determine how you can make your business stand out from all the rest. If youre selling copier supplies, why is someone going to come to your site versus the other millions of copier supply Web sites? Are you going to sell based on price, location, quantity, quality of service? Are you going to provide online shipment tracking, account management, wish lists, real-time credit card authorization and processing, and other advanced eCommerce applications to make your site more professional? These are all issues that need to be addressed before you start designing your first product page.

Taking the next step of selling online is a big decision for your business and isnt to be taken lightly. There is significant cost and risk involved, but there is also significant reward waiting to be had. Be sure to consult with your Web developer to find out which options are available to you and do your research ahead of time. Not every eCommerce site is profitable, but if you prepare, theres no reason yours cant be.

However, once you enter the world of ecommerce you begin to take notice of the pebbles tossed in the pond you swim in. Suddenly it is much easier to see the ripples those pebbles create and you brace for the aftermath of the wake.

Ecommerce is a wonderful place to be in that overhead is often much less than a traditional brick and mortar store and you likely have fewer employees than a traditional store counterpart.

However, you may discover that your marketing plan needs a flex mode. This means that the things you sell online may require certain shifts in marketing.

For instance, lets say

1. You sell decorative outdoor lighting fixtures.

2. Your marketing plan has you developing content based on developing pleasing lighting for the home.

3. New housing starts are down and new home purchases are light.

In this scenario there will likely be customers who would be looking for lighting for a home they own and want to improve it for reasons you may have stated in your online content. However, what if you flexed your marketing ideals and repitched the product as a way of improving the value of a home an individual may be wanting to sell.

It is the exact same product you are simply recasting the product to conform to a felt need. That need is expressed in the business climate. There may come a time when you revise your approach again, but thats one of the best things about ecommerce, you can recast your sales approach when you need to.

Some of the very dismal things that may be happening in the business world around you may present marketing tools you just havent learned to use yet.

When it appears the economy may have dealt a blow to your marketing objectives take some time to investigate if there may be new opportunities in marketing. Sometimes adversity can allow ecommerce to flourish in new soil.

Look for any and every advantage to your product in light of changing circumstances. Change doesnt always have to be a bad thing.

Last week I flew back to Chicago from Delhi and although I cant really say that I enjoyed any part of that 14 hours + flight, I did get a lot of time to think about the cultural differences between American and Indian consumers. For retailer to be successful in India, it is important to take into account these differences and customize the offerings to better meet the motivations and preferences of the Indian customer.

1. Love to Touch & Feel
\r First and foremost, Indian customers love to touch and feel the products before making the purchase decision. This is one of the major disadvantages for an eCommerce environment where the touch and feel aspect is almost missing from the shopping experience. However, there are technologies and solutions that the retailers can implement to help reduce this gap. In addition partnerships with local dealership can be developed to offer buy online, pickup in store capabilities which can help in bridging the gap between online and B&M channels.

4. EMI means more than Electromagnetic Interference
\r Traditionally, Indian customers have been fiscally conservative and they have stayed away from financing and loan options. However, the boom in Indian economy and the easy availability of financing options has made purchasing a lot easier for the middle class segment. EMI or Equated Monthly Installments has been a welcome addition to the Indian vocabulary. Online retailers can significantly improve the conversion for big ticket items by offering creative financing deals so that more and more customers can afford the products.

5. Bargain, where?

However, strategies like Hi-Lo pricing are very rare to find in the Indian retail industry and the product prices remain fairly static for a long time.
